Spermism, What Is Spermism, What Does It Mean?July 1, 2021
Spermism is an intellectual movement that emphasizes the characteristics of the sperm in determining all the features of the fetus. The question of how people resemble each other has occupied the minds of philosophers and scientists for many years. Around 530 BC, Pythagoras proposed the oldest and most widely accepted theory of the resemblance between offspring and their parents. According to this theory, the heredity or the similarity with the expression of the period is carried in the semen of the man. This understanding has also emerged as Spermism today.
According to Spermism, semen circulates through the man’s body and collects information about the body by absorbing mysterious vapors from every part. In time, the semen turns into a mobile library that contains all the information of the body, and it has all the information about the person. These “seeds of knowledge” are transferred to the female body during sexual intercourse. The semen reaching the uterus prepares a place for itself here and takes the form of the fetus by being fed from the mother’s body.
As in many forms of production, men and women divide the work in this production. The father provides the basic information that constitutes the fetus, and the mother provides the nourishment necessary for the transformation of this information into the fetus. This theory was called spermism, since it brought the features of the sperm to the fore in determining all the features of the fetus much later.
