Philosophy of education, apart from other philosophical disciplines, is a philosophical discipline that focuses on the main subject created by the aims of education.
FUNCTIONS OF EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
In the selection of educational goals, it provides the determination of the degree of relevance of the goals to the society and the individual and to control the consistency between the goals.
It plays an active role in determining which aspects of the society’s characteristics, the needs of the individual and the “subject area” requirements will be emphasized in determining the objectives of education.
It brings versatility and broad perspective to educational practice by integrating the findings of educational sciences and other educational sciences.
It examines learning theories in a broad perspective and integrates the findings of various theories revealed by experimental studies. It presents various alternatives for educators and teachers for different situations.
It is related to the whole life span of a person and his fields of activity. Establishing a meaningful connection between them and creating a healthy unity between the past and the present can be possible with philosophical studies.
Examines and criticizes the theoretical foundations on which current educational activities are based. Educators can only reveal and solve the soundness of the theoretical foundations on the basis of the practices they adhere to and regard as the best, only with a philosophical approach.
It deals with the development of educational theories.
It is one of the most important functions of the philosophy of education to develop theories that are consistent with the social, cultural, economic structure and values of the country by combining scientific knowledge and application results.
It helps the educator and teacher to see education in all its aspects.
