Similarity between ratios .
1. Etymology: It is derived from the Greek word analoia, which means proportion in European languages. As a scientific term, it gives the meaning of similarity in terms of proportion. In Turkish, analogy, analogy as a synonym, and analogy terms are derived from the root of analogy. The term analogy is also used in the same sense.
2. Logic: The ancient Greek thinker Aristotle defined the term analogy, as it is still used today, as the similarity between the ratios. The analogy can be quantitative as well as qualitative. As a matter of fact, logic reasoning more with qualitative analogies. However, the analogy between quantitative ratios is certain, it cannot be doubted. Qualitative ratios are not as precise. So, can analogy be used with deduction and induction with the same precision and certainty in reasoning?.. The scholastic logicians of the Middle Ages tried to prove the superiority of deduction over induction, and next to it, analogy, in order to reinforce rationalism against empiricism. Because induction is the work of empiricism, a general conclusion is drawn from the results obtained from various particular experiments. Deduction, on the other hand, was then considered the work of rationalism, since general principles are derived from reflection, not from experience. Strengthening the analogous evidence (Os. Burhan’s representation, Fr. Argument analogique) would also benefit rationalism. This is the reason why this subject was given so much importance throughout the Middle Ages. See. 4. Biology: In today’s life science, unlike the analogy theory, analogous organs are called analogous organs because they do not come from the same source but because they perform the same function. 5. Aesthetics: Since the Ancient Greeks, until recently, writing beautiful scripts or poems (Os. Nazire) was considered a mastery, and in this respect, fine works of art were kept as an example. In today’s art, this is only an imitation and is a non-artistic phenomenon.

7. Linguistics: Amendment is one of the main methods of linguistics. New words are derived by analogy.
8. Physics: The logical analogy method, which is used to extract unknown similarities from known similarities, has also been used successfully in physics. For example, they are measured by analogy to previously known horsepower.
9. Astronomy: With the same logical analogy method, important results have been obtained in astronomy as in physics. For example, since there are conditions similar to the physical and chemical conditions in our world, it has been attempted to send a man to the Moon.
10. Information theory: The analogy method is useful in drawing conclusions from similarity, defining and classifying. For example, Claude Bernard concluded that the grass-eating rabbit ate itself when it was starved, that is, by feeding on its substitute foods, it passed from grass-eating to meat-eating, by looking at the red urine of meat-eaters and yellow-colored urine of grass-eaters. Huygens discovered that light is a wave based on the analogy between sound vibrations and light vibrations. The analogy method is based on the possibility that in objects with common properties, another property found in one can also be found in the other. However, this is a possibility and lacks scientific certainty. For this reason, the analogy method, which has been used for centuries instead of experimentation and observation, is not used today, although it has achieved many successful results. However, some scholars are of the opinion that the analogy method can still be used today and can lead to beneficial results, provided that it is controlled by other methods. However, analogy cannot be a stand-alone proof and is not a reliable proof unless it is checked by other means. Apart from the demonstration problem, many new discoveries can be made by analogy.
