What is Educational Philosophy?

Educational philosophy; It is a philosophical field that deals with the nature, process, aims and ideals of education. Education can be considered in the context of social institutions or in the existential development process. The philosophy of education, on the other hand, approaches education in terms of humanity rather than the social aspect of the subject. Educational philosophers produce new theories by considering the needs of the society they live in, and they direct the education of the society thanks to these theories they produce.

Educational philosophy; It is a philosophical discipline that directs education, shapes the aims of education, considers education as a whole and thinks as an indispensable element of culture.

An idea and thought system that has no practical value in education is meaningless. With this aspect, the philosophy of education has to evaluate the educational practices with a critical approach, to examine the theoretical foundations on which the practices are based, and to put forward educational theories that are consistent with the country’s realities and needs, the quality of society, culture and people for educational practices.

Educational philosophy; it has to set the aims of education, who will be educated and why, in line with the philosophy of the country.

Educational philosophy also benefits from epistemology. Those who prepare education programs have to deal closely with the issues that are the subject of epistemology such as the nature of knowledge, the structure of the information system, its sources and the validity of knowledge. By benefiting from philosophy, those who deal with education put forward the goals they want to achieve with education, at least through the filter of philosophy, and formulate standards and norms to evaluate practices. Every society develops its own thought system.

The theories of thought about education put forward in the philosophy of education are approaches inspired by normal philosophy. The philosophy of education is also education; It has to conceptualize all the elements as a whole, taking into account all the fields to which it is directly or indirectly related.
