The nature of the whole.
It expresses the unity whose parts are completely interconnected. The German thinker Kant counted unity as one of the main concepts of thought and defined it as the synthesis of unity and multiplicity. Totality is one of Kant’s twelve categories. According to the psychologist Paulhan, spiritual elements tend to gather and integrate with associations. In dialectical materialism, it is defined as universal connection.
The universe is a whole whose parts are interconnected in various ways. For example, an apple is not the product of the apple tree, but the product of all nature. The universal connection is an objective connection independent of human consciousness. Expressing the unity of matter, this understanding of connectional unity also requires the unity of science-philosophy in its mutual effects.
