What Is Lighting, What Does It Mean?July 1, 2021
The general name of religious-mystical teachings based on enlightenment with individual intuition. The teachings of Swedenborgianism in the West, the sect of Claude Saint-Martin, and Shababettin Sühreverdi in the East and Ibn Tufeyl, who followed him, are especially called Lightism.
Light is the symbol of holiness and inner enlightenment since the first thoughts. In this sense, the French thinker Descartes defines the power of knowing given to man by God, and the German thinker Schopenhauer defines it as individual intuition swinging between subjectivity and objectivity. Lightism has its roots in the Hermeticism of ancient Egypt, Zoroastrianism in Iran, and Platonism of ancient Greece.
According to Şebabettin Sühreverdi (1158-1191), who put forward a typical light-making doctrine, the light of lights is god, it intensified as it filtered from the sky to the ground and darkened to form the material world. Matter, by training itself, can rise towards it again and become illuminated. As you approach the light with the intuitive method, the brightness of the light increases; the brightness of each step leads to the brightness of the next step. In this way, the great enlightenment of the light of lights, which covers every meaning, can be reached.
