It is possible to answer the question of what is perennialism as follows: Perennialism is an educational philosophy movement that emphasizes the mind and sees the best side of human nature as reason. Perennial representative thinkers focus on shaping education according to certain universal facts.
WHAT IS PERMANENTITY?

According to the perennialism movement, human nature and moral principles do not change. People need to be brought up according to these immutable eternal truths. Education should be engaged in the work of raising the type of man of sound and right character.
In this context, the task of education is to convey unchanging cultural and universal values to students. Student freedom is out of the question. The aim is to raise intelligent, intelligent and decent individuals who follow the rules.
The most important aim of this understanding, which argues that individuals can reach the truth only by using their minds, is to raise intelligent individuals. The best part of human nature is “reason”. Therefore, it is necessary to give importance to the development of the human mind (intellectual education) in education.
The basis of this movement is “Classical realism”. This view of education also supports many of the idealists.
Perennialists identified some constants and argued that these should be given through education in every period and society. For example, human nature is the same everywhere, and the mind is the most distinguishing feature of man. For this reason, the aim of education systems is to “raise people as a human being” in every period and society.
It has been argued that the basic principles in education are unchangeable and that these principles should be continuous. “Immutability in rapid change” is the main principle for education. Like human nature, truth and knowledge are unchanging. Educational programs should be transcendent and transcultural. The essence of education is to impart knowledge and knowledge is the same everywhere. Education should be based on reason, which is the highest quality of man.
Education is the process of preparing the individual for life, the eternal real life. Character education is very important for educating the individual morally and religiously.
Children should be taught permanent information and immutable values that are really important, not what they like in their own time. School is a place of preparation for life.
It is very important to teach logic, classical (Latin, Greek) and modern languages, mathematics and especially the great eternal works of the Western world. Book information never gets old, the message of the past does not disappear.
In order to teach all these, the teacher has an authoritative role. Student interests and wishes are not important. The treatment of the subjects is the Socratic method, as man is considered intelligent.
Perennialism is the most conservative, traditional and anti-change among educational philosophies. In this philosophy, it is believed that human nature is continuous in education. This philosophy was mostly influenced by realism and idealism. The teacher is active and centered.
In the philosophy of perennialism, the teacher’s being active and the student passive, being against change, conveying the unchanging truths to the students, not being free to the students, not giving place to interpretation in the learned information are the principles advocated by behaviorism.

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE PERMANENTISTIC CURRENT
There should be an unchanging, universal understanding of education.
Intellectual education must be defended. The most important characteristic of man is the ability to think. Man must be brought up to be able to manage himself wisely. Man has to be educated both to live a wise life and to be able to bear the responsibility of his freedom. Freedom and responsibility complement each other in civilized man. Freedom: Do what you want, what you think. Responsibility: It is the ability to bear the consequences of their actions. Freedom is essential for responsibility.
Education is necessary for adaptation to universal and eternal (unchanging) truth. The aim of education is not to adapt people to the situations of the world, but to adapt to the immutable realities (ideal-ide). The truth does not change, it is the same everywhere. So education should be the same everywhere. If people learn the absolute truths and adapt to it, there will be improvement in society.
Education is not a copy (imitation) of life, it is preparation for it. For the perennialists, schools can never be a replica of real life or a clone of society. The aim of the school should be to develop the human mind. Perennialists interpret that when they say “education is preparation for life”, it means that the student adopts the cultural heritage and values, thereby ensuring that their values are made aware of and contributing to their development. The main function of the school is to effectively transfer the culture to the new generations.
Children and young people should be given information that will introduce them to both the spiritual and material realities of the world. Instead of important information at certain times, children should be provided with valid knowledge and values at any time, anywhere and at any age. These, in turn, are found in the humanities, mathematics, philosophy, logic, and natural sciences.
Great books (classical works) education should be given. Universal problems and the superior wishes and wishes of humanity are taught in literature, philosophy.
