What is the First Substance, and What Does It Mean?July 2, 2021
The first spiritual essence from which things are made, supposed by metaphysicians. Aristotle was the first thinker to ask what this is. Aristotle put this question in his own language and sought its answer in the thinkers before him. The purpose of the Miletians was to seek the arkhe (first N.), but not the first substance. They were more of a kind of physicists, engaged in technique. For example, when Thales said that the thing from which the earth sprang was water, he did not consider whether it should have been the first substance. Aristotle is of great importance in the philosophical field. Because he organized and put forward all the philosophical questions necessary for his predecessors. In reality, there is no primordial substance or primordial substance, nor is there any final substance or ultimate matter. These researches arose from a false understanding of essence or substance.
