Civil society is communities of free and autonomous citizens who can direct themselves and defend their rights and freedoms outside of state institutions.
With the development of democracy, some segments emerged as a result of organizing in order to protect their rights and interests. Civil society is a kind of self-direction of society. Associations and trade unions are examples of civil society.
What are the functions of civil society?
To secure individual rights and freedoms by protecting them from the unilateral pressure of the state.
To express the wishes and concerns of individuals and society, to protect their rights and interests
Contributing to the establishment of democratic understanding in society and democratic principles in administration
To be effective in making political decisions by creating public opinion and putting pressure against the government
To reduce the burden of the state in these areas by providing voluntary public service in matters such as helping the needy, health and education.
