Who is Anthony Ashley-Cooper?December 13, 2020
Anthony Shaftesbury (1671 – 1713) is an English thinker.
Shaftesbury, known mostly for his moral views and his optimism that deeply influenced Leibniz, argued that everything is in its place and directed to its own purpose, so everything that exists is essentially good.
Shaftesbury, who maintains that there is a moral sense in human beings, that this sense serves to distinguish between good and evil, and that selfishness is motivated by the sincere joys of sacrifice rather than primitive satisfaction, Shaftesbury tried to base the unrequited character of virtue with this sense. Although he fought atheism, settling on a deism, he did not respect the revealed religions and offered absolute tolerance and neutrality in the field of religion.
