Apollo of Tyana or Apollonius of Tyana (Greek: Ἀπολλώνιος ὁ Τυανεύς)

Greek philosopher, one of the most important representatives of Neo-Pythagoreanism, born in the city of Tyana (today Kemerhisar) in the Cappadocia province of the Roman Empire.

Apollo crossed from Tyana to Tarsus when he was 16 years old. He studied at the school of Pythagoras in Tarsus and traveled to many countries as one of the important defenders of the neo-Pythagorean doctrine. He died in the city of Ephesus, where he founded a school. The thinker, whose life coincided with the same period as Jesus, is known as the first vegetarian in history. Filostratus (II) wrote the book Life of Apollo of Tyana, which describes his life after him.
