Aydın Sayılı, originally from Gaziantep, was born in Istanbul.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who was there during the maturity exams held in Ankara High School, saw Aydın Sayılı’s answers to the questions and asked him to take the exams abroad. Aydın Sayılı, who won Harvard University, completed his master’s and doctorate degrees here. He became the first person to receive his doctorate degree in the field of science history with his doctoral dissertation “Arabic and Islamic Science”. Upon his return to Turkey and Ankara University Language on- history of science courses in the Faculty of Philosophy Department gave.
His field of study is the Turkish-Islamic world scientific activity. His work on this field has taken its place in the world philosophical literature. Aydın Sayılı participated in UNESCO’s “History of Central Asian Civilizations” study. He was selected as an honorary member of the Oriental Scientists Association in Germany. The Consulate of Poland presented Aydın Sayılı the Copernicus Medal for his work named “Copernicus” in 1973 for the 500th birthday of Copernicus.
Aydın Sayılı left many works behind. “History of Science: The Most True Guide in Life is Science.”, “Mathematics, Astronomy and Medicine in Egyptians and Mesopotamians”, “A Gift to Beyrûnî”, “Turkish as a Language of Science, Culture and Education”, “Gift of the Thousandth Year of Ibn Sînâ Birth” ”And“ Nikola Copernicus and his Monumental Work ”are among the prominent ones.
