Famous thinker of the French Enlightenment, who lived between February 9, 1657 and January 11, 1757.
Embracing Cartesian physics, Fontenelle gained its great reputation from popularizing scientific ideas and presenting them to the wider public. Fontenelle, an empiricist in terms of his view of knowledge, arguing that all our thoughts can be reduced to sense data in the last analysis, besides spreading scientific ideas, he also contributed to the development and consolidation of skepticism in matters of religious truth.
