Bruno Bauer, (6 October 1809 – 13 April 1882) Communist German theologian, philosopher and historian.
He explored the origin of the New Testament, concluding that early Christianity actually owed more to Stoicism than Judaism. He described Christianity as “the triumph of stoicism in Jewish disguise.” He said that in the surviving Roman Empire records there was no such person as Jesus of Nazareth, it was just a myth. Bauer had an important place among the Young Hegelians during his lifetime.
