He worked with author Victor Charbonnel in L’Action magazine. He was also a member of the French Human Rights Commission for many years. Bayet, who was also interested in politics, was one of the defenders of the Messianic theory. Together with Paul-Louis Couchoud and Prosper Alfaric, he wrote the book “Jesus and the Problem of Christian Origins” (Le Problème de Jésus et les Origines du Christianisme) (1932).
