Edward WilliamsEdward Williams Morley (January 29, 1838 – February 24, 1923) was a physicist and professor of chemistry known for the Michelson–Morley experiment.
He was born in 1838 in Newark, New Jersey, USA. He lived in West Hartford, Connecticut. He graduated from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1860. From 1869 to 1906 he was professor of chemistry at what is now Case Western Reserve University. Together with Albert Michelson in 1887, they carried out their experiments to prove the existence of the luminous ether. He died in 1923.
