Francis Willis KiFrancis Willis received a religious education at Oxford. She worked at a clinic in rural Lincolnshire that served people struggling with mental health issues and became known for her successful treatments. His talent and experience in this field earned him a medical degree at Oxford at the age of 41.
Willis’ treatment method was different. His method included repressive psychological tactics such as coercion and orthodox medicine practices. He also gave his patients initiative and often encouraged them to take responsibility for their own actions. His fame reached its peak when he treated King George III. In the 1800s, he was recognized by the authorities as a pioneer of moral therapy.
He completed his doctorate of medicine at Oxford in 1759. Before working as a doctor at a hospital in Lincoln, he treated the mentally ill in his own home, and it was during these years that his first successes came. In 1776 he moved to Greatford Hall near Bourne, Lincolnshire, which he founded as a private rural sanatorium. As part of her treatment, she tried to heal her patients in the barns and fields of the Greatford estate, accompanied by fresh air and exercise. The methods he applied were quickly recognized in a short time.
