Who is Franz Oppenheimer?

Franz Oppenhei was born on March 30, 1864 in Berlin; He died on September 30, 1943 in Los Angeles.

German-Jewish sociologist and political economist. He made scientific studies on the sociological foundations of the state. After studying medicine in Freiburg and Berlin, he worked as a doctor between 1886 and 1895. After 1890, he focused on sociopolitical issues and social economy.

In the future, he started to work as an editor in the magazine called Welt am Morgen. In 1909, he completed his doctorate in philosophy in Kiel with his thesis on David Ricardo. Between 1909 and 1917, he worked as a Privatdozent (academic title for universities in some German-speaking countries) in Berlin. Afterwards, he worked for 2 years as a titularproffesor (professor with the authority to use his title with his name). In 1914, he was the founding partner of the committee formed for the liberation of the Russian Jews. In 1919, he received an invitation to the chair of sociology and theoretical political economy from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. This is also the first chair of sociology in Germany. He worked in Palestine from 1934 to 1935, awarded an honorary membership by the American Sociological Association in 1936. In 1938, with the increase of Nazi repression, he took refuge in Los Angeles, USA, primarily through Tokyo and Shanghai. In 1941, he became a founding member of the American journal of economics and sociology.
