Who is Hermann Cohen?

Thanks to him, there was a revival of Kant’s philosophy itself and its expansions, which we can say to coincide with the early 1900s in Germany. With the books and articles he wrote about Kant, he contributed to many philosophers, especially Cassirer, on the specific aspects and important discoveries of Kant’s philosophy.

While Cohen says that what the Kantian system basically teaches us is the methodological content and its consequences, there is no doubt that reason grounds its own limits (as well as makes clear distinctions between reason (vernunft), verstand, and perception) and judgment and practice. He emphasizes that philosophy should insist on the transcendental method, which also saves universality with reason. For Cohen, the transcendental method, which is the only thing that breaks the chain of causality and freedom, is a method that must be kept alive in philosophy and is far from being a thing of history. According to him, philosophy should base its principles on the principles of Kantian philosophy that are powered by its own limitations.
