Neo-Platonian thinker.

The most important work of Porphyryus, who was a student of Plotinus and wrote commentaries on his works, is Isagoci, which was designed as an introduction to Aristotle’s Organon and in which he deals with the subject of universals.

In this work, Porphyry systematically examined the five universals, genus, species, distinction (chapter), generic distinction (hassa) and accident (accident), and in this way opened the way to the famous fight of universals in the Middle Ages. Porphyryus is a thinker who gave more importance to practical and religious elements than Plotinus. According to the philosopher, who says that the ultimate and highest aim of philosophy is the salvation of the soul, the soul must seek ways of purification by turning its attention from the lower to the higher. Within this framework, the path to purification is asceticism and knowledge of God.
