Who is Seyla Benhabib?June 26, 2021
One of the world’s most well-known and important Turkish philosophers, Prof. Dr. Seyla Benhabib was born in Istanbul in 1950, she studied at Robert College (American Girls’ College). He went to the USA in 1970 to study philosophy at Brandeis University and continued his education at Yale University, where he completed his doctorate in 1977. A professor at Harvard University since 1993, Benhabib once directed the New School Research Center.
He studied political science and philosophy and taught at Cambridge University. Benhabib is considered one of the most important contributors to feminist theory. The book Feminist Struggle: Philosophical Change discusses this issue.
A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1995, Benhabib is also known for his work on Karl Marx, Hegel, Max Weber and Jürgen Habermas.
Benhabib’s most recent achievement was being awarded the Ernst Bloch Award (Erns-Bloch-Preis) medal from the Ernst Bloch Center in 2009. The Ernst Bloch Award is one of the world’s most important philosophy awards.
