Who is Thrasymachus?June 26, 2021
He is one of the sophists who dwell on the Nature-Law opposition.
According to him, inequality between people is natural and the strong by nature should rule the weak. This understanding is expressed by Plato as “justice is what comes to mind for the strong” (Devlet, 2011: 338c).
He is one of Socrates’ students. A day when Socrates did maximum negative philosophy on the concepts of right and wrong; He put an end to the conversation by saying that right and wrong are completely negative concepts determined only by the strong.
The previous sophists Hippias and Antiphon thought that human nature is the same everywhere, so every human being is equal. On the other hand, Thrasymakhos stated that when we look at nature, it will be seen that this is not the case at all, that some are stronger and more intelligent by nature, that strong animals eat the weak, that smarter people dominate the more stupid and less cunning ones, and from this point of view, it is necessary for the strong to be the master of the weak. concluded that it was natural and just. This forms the basis of the famous superhuman theory, which will be put forward by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche about 2500 years later.
